One of the highlights of summer at the Darien Historical Society is "HANDS-ON-HISTORY DAYS, a day camp program for children entering second grade and older. Above and below left: A re-enactment visit from a Revolutionary War soldier on the Bates-Scofield House lawn. Through crafts and other activities the children are introduced to facets of Colonial life.
|
The Society serves over 500 school-age children each year. Second graders tour the Bates-Scofield House and experience a "hands-on" introduction to 18th century spinning and weaving. A curriculum-related art history program is offered in community schools. Childrens groups come to learn about the Societys renowned quilt collection and slide presentations on the history of Darien are available for in-school use.

 |
A Colonial "Tour of the Town" is available for 5th Grade classes in Darien Elementary Schools.
A program for 4th Graders on American Quilts is held at the individual schools.
Each Spring Second Grade classes visit The Bates-Scofield House for a guided tour and a wool/flax workshop. |
